Mental Health Counselor II - AFSP


POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:  Provide direct and indirect client services.

Participate in assertive assessment and evaluation of seriously emotionally disturbed, mentally ill individuals. Determine individual’s strengths, needs and resources. Assess client’s level psychosocial impairment, substance abuse history, self-care potential, family and support network availability, independent living needs, financial status, educational, employment or training needs, and social/recreational needs. Develop and coordinate service plans.

Complete all documentation within mandated time frame and in compliance with county, state, and Center guidelines.

Assist clients in developing or maintaining the daily living skills needed to implement and achieve the goals of the individual service plan.

Provide crisis intervention – intervene with the client/others at the onset of a crisis to provide support and assistance in problem resolution and to coordinate or arrange for the provision of other needed services.

Transports clients to and from appropriate service as necessary.

Will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team; participate in staff and clinical meetings and other meetings as assigned.

Provide individual, group, or family intervention to clients as needed, within the scope of practice.



B.A. in field of social work, counseling, psychology, or related field.


Minimum of three years experience in a behavioral health care; experience with chronic mentally ill and homeless preferred. Familiar with DSMIV preferred. Case management experience necessary; one year experience in M.A
