Center for the Assessment and Prevention of Prodromal States (CAPPS) specializes in identifying and treating adolescents and young adults (between the ages of 16 and 25) who are at high risk for developing major mental illness. Applicants for CAPPS services must show signs of possible psychosis (known as the "prodromal" phase). The CAPPS program aims to protect vulnerable youth in hopes that the full-blown illness does not develop. The program requires family involvement. Additional services include: medication, individual psychotherapy, family education and case management services. The program accepts Medi-Cal and has some funds for the uninsured.
